Cottona has expanded its assortment of outdoor tablecloths with four beautiful and timeless striped designs from the Basque Country. Just like damask, the Basque stripe is a classic.
In the 18th Century, horses and bulls in the Basque Country were covered with a striped coat. This coat protected the animals against insects and the sun. Every farm had a unique stripe, which allowed the different fermes to distinguish themselves from one another. Later, because they were considered so beautiful, these ‘coats’ were used as tablecloths, and that’s how the distinctive Basque table linen came into being.
The Basque fabrics in the photos are specially weaved for Cottona with a width of 280cm (unique!) so that tablecloths of all shapes and sizes can be made. So, you could have a bespoke round, oval or extra-large garden tablecloth made from this fabric!
The fabric is UV-resistant and weather-proof. So, it won’t lose its colour in the sun or get damaged in the rain. The Teflon layer ensures that stains won’t penetrate the fabric. The ideal garden tablecloth that doesn’t feel like plastic but is perfectly suited to long meals outdoors.
